I have added a new handout to the provider, patient and practice pages for future reference on how AETNA patients and families can go about getting a home birth exception or learning about their plans homebirth and midwifery coverage with AETNA plans. Self funded plans that are only managed by AETNA, including local chapters, EBMS, teachers unions and more may only use AETNA as a claims processing agent but have their own policies regarding midwifery and home birth benefits. Each patient's plan and group should be treated individually until a benefit determination is made.
