Alaska Medicaid Provider Self-Audits Due 12/31/2022

Updated: Nov 3, 2022

If you have not already received your audit report from me, you can expect it within the next few weeks. I will provide the full financial audit report using the state's randomized sample sizes for all state assigned Transaction Control Numbers (TCNs) that paid more than $0.00 for all dates of service within 01/01/2020-12/31/2020.

As the provider, you will need to take the audit sample and cross check it against the patient's medical records for accurate reporting and coding. Any overpayment(s) identified will be the responsibility of the provider to enclose a check when the provider submits the final audit to the state by the December 31, 2022 deadline.

The next self-audit cycle will cover either calendar year 2019 or 2020 that is due no later than December 31, 2022, even if a provider took advantage of the extension to file the first round of self-audits until March 31, 2021.

If your self-audit identifies an overpayment, please DO NOT submit AK-05’s (adjustment/voids form) to Conduent for processing. Instead, please include a check for the amount of the overpayment made payable to the “State of Alaska”. This should be submitted with your self-audit or no later than 60 days following submission.

The self-audits and overpayments are to be sent to:

DHSS/Medicaid Program Integrity Attn: Provider Self-Audits 3601 C Street, Suite 902 Anchorage, AK 99503

If you need technical assistance, our website provides helpful tools or you can email QAPIProgramIntegrity@alaska.gov.

Effective June 7, 2018 the Department of Health and Social Services requires all Medicaid providers to conduct a self-audit once every two years, draft a report of the self-audit, sign and submit the self audit attestation form, and to repay all identified overpayments. See Alaska Statute 47.05.235 and Alaska Administrative Code 7 AAC 160.115.
